Every child has a bit of a chemist side to them, and loves to mix different ingredients together. With a bit of guidance and direction from Carmelo the Science Fellow you will create things like never before. Experiment and create your very own power-ball that bounces so high it could reach the sky. Enter the world of Perfume Science and design your own perfume that suits you perfectly and make some perfumes for your family that is made especially for them. At one time chewing gum in school got you into big trouble. Here at the Cosmic Cove you will learn how to make gum in class as a lesson in the chemistry of food. Can you make the world’s best bubble gum? Learn how to mix ingredients and make a large tube of minty toothpaste. All this and more this coming fall session.
Is it magic? Is it science? This is the question that Carmelo will be asking all scientists this winter at the Cosmic Cove. Learn how to take a real hard chicken bone and turn it into a rope with a knot in it. Take a simple wooden toothpick and learn how to propel objects across a pool of water. Make magical ink and watch it disappear right before your very own eyes. You won’t even believe that it’s happening. Have you every tried pulling a tablecloth off of the table and had all of the silverware stay still? If not, Carmelo will dress all of the tables at the Cove and show you how this trick is really done? Is it magic? Is it science? Join us this winter and become a young Houdini.
Scientists will love using colorful gizmos at the Cosmic Cove and explore different shapes, structures, and building materials. Build a bridge and see if it is able to support the weight of our toy cars. Using foam bowls and rubber bands make your very own wind-up critter cars and learn about energy. Using balloons and tongue depressors make a rocket balloon car and learn about motion. Do you have any old tissue paper at home? If so, learn how to use it and turn it into a parachute, and land an egg without cracking it. Learn about balance by working with an eagle that can balance on the tip of its beak. Build bridges, tops, and the super vortex marble roll. Don’t wait scientists zoom to this class!
